Day 2 - Malota Community School

We started the day with some teaching about the UK to Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 (ages 9-16). It began well with lots of interaction and laughter from the children . . . not sure they were too impressed with our renditions of 'God Save the Queen' and 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau'! This was followed by some games, a favourite being the 'hokey cokey'. After a quick break we settled down to our research. We conducted a focus group based on access to healthcare and health education. Not the easiest of tasks trying to facilitate a large class of children who struggled with English! However we persevered and the translators were greatly appreciated!

Challenge 2 was the questionnaires! We started with one on malaria. Trying to assess what the children knew was difficult. They are used to being tested and struggled to grasp the concept that there was no wrong answer! The afternoon was filled with more games and acrobatic performances by Barefeet.

After a thorough debrief we were encouraged by the amount of data we had managed to acquire in a single day and are feeling hopeful for the rest of the week.

(FIRST AID UPDATE - 2 stubbed toes all managed calmly and safely thanks to the help of Ben Pyner.)
